Heart attacks symptoms are different for women. I recently learned this.

veggiebaker

Everyone should know these things.

thanks to mainstream media and being unable to show breasts on TV, way too few people know about female signs of cardiac distress, and impending heart attacks. they only know about the “pain in the left arm” male symptom.

lockrocksandcoke

i had all these symptoms once and they sent me right to hospital

it was scary bc i didnt know these were the symptoms for female heart issues

Please, please, PLEASE, reblog this. i don’t know if I did save or called false alarm, with my boss’ life tonight. I felt I was being a bit paranoid, overreacting, but I told Mirage my thoughts and he, after reading over the article I showed him, immediately sprung into action and then shooed her off to the hospital. I don’t know if I did or not, but I knew she’d been super stressed. She’d off-handedly commented on her arm tingling and I asked her if she felt queasy on a hunch. I went to look at the symptoms and we went from there.

Holy shit, I didn’t even think the symptoms would be different between men and women. This is so hugely important and I don’t understand why we aren’t taught this.

One of the other symptoms that doesn’t get talked about , especially in women, is a “feeling of impending doom”. I am not even kidding, that is a legitimate diagnostic criteria.

Please - if you are feeling any of these symptoms and a sudden onset of “Holy shit the world is ending” do not let anyone tell you it’s “just nerves” or “just heartburn” or something.

adding some more symptoms from my nursing experiences - chest pain is not as common a sign for a woman having a heart attack. jaw pain and nausea are two bigger tells. chest pain is also one of those signs that is very vague - it can be attributed to gastrointestinal distress, respiratory issues, chest muscle fatigue, etc. which is why when you go to an ER, a symptom of chest pain is top priority during triage because they need to rule out a heart attack (relatively more serious and deadly vs. something like gastric reflux) before they treat anything else.

also fun fact: heart attacks are hugely more common during thanksgiving. this is because after you eat a ton of food, your blood supply is shunted proportionally more to your GI system to help digest and absorb all that food - so there is less blood going to your heart as a result. and when a very full and satiated person immediately goes and plays turkey day football after eating, that increases the work of the heart even more. in simpler terms, in this situation your heart is demanding a greater blood supply but since more blood is being shunted to your GI system, there is less blood carying oxygen to nourish your heart as you exercise, which leads to severe ischemia of portions of your heart, which then leads to necrosis (tissue death) of the affected areas. that is what causes a heart attack.

reasons why my grandpa is the best:

  • he made my wife and i (i’m a woman) a giant banner for our one year anniversary
  • when i was pregnant, the baby was kicking and when he touched my belly, the baby stopped and he called him a little shit
  • he once called and left a voicemail asking how to spell styrofoam
  • he flipped a table bc he saw someone hit a dog
  • he beat skrim in 4 days
  • he served in the korean war and when he came home, he learned korean so if he ever ran into a korean vet, he could “give them the same respect he’d give an american vet”
  • my son has two moms and there was a “special guy in your life” day at his school for father’s day so my grandpa went and showed up in dress pants and a pressed shirt bc he “didn’t want to embarrass him”. also, there was a little boy who didn’t have anyone there and grandpa asked if he could be his “special guy” and the little boy beamed
  • he knows all of the secrets to the zelda games
  • he’s had 4 open heart surgeries and can still kick your ass

she likes to be kissed softly during romance movies. if you nibble down her neck and across her collar bones, she’ll melt into you. she will stop to pet every single dog, and would adopt every kitten if she could. she likes ice cream in most flavors and will eat it out of the bin if you let her - and you should let her. she likes it when you point out nice plants and give her pretty things like pebbles and grass rings. she gets sleepy somewhere around noon. she likes looking at the sky. i think she is in love with the moon.

she used to be in love with me, too.

when you kiss her forehead, tell her that her hair smells nice. tell her that the fleck in her eye is beautiful. tell her that her freckles and scars are treasure maps, tell her that her tummy is the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. tell her your secrets, she’ll handle them perfectly. tell her that she’s a lighthouse, a garden full of daisies, a secret hiding place where time stops and things make sense, an ocean deep. tell her that she’s worth your whole being. tell her for me.

hold onto her the way i couldn’t. trust me, i know what i lost. give her the life she was waiting for, the one i couldn’t hand her. give her romance and fairy lights and laughter and curling up and quiet, give her art and music and wild, give her home. trust me, hold onto her.

i feel the ache of her absence as if she removed my soul.

so hold on for me // r.i.d (via inkskinned)

Fractal art is a type of digital art that’s considered new media. It’s not drawn or painted by hand, rather, fractal-generating software is used that relies on mathematical calculations to visually display objects. Italy-born Silvia Cordedda was made aware of fractal art in 2012, and has since amassed a body of work that’s nothing short of extraordinary.

Her 3D abstract art is often centered on flowers but ones that could never exist in this world. The translucent nature of the pedals coupled with the brilliant variety of colours makes each flower look as if it could only exist in our dreams or perhaps a wonderful, magical world.
